IMPORTANT NEWS!!!!!!

On July 22, 2001, just two weeks before our 175th Anniversary, Providence Baptist Church acquired the minutes of the church dating back to August 5, 1826.  We are in the process of going through these minutes and updating our understanding of our history.  All we had prior to this time was dated from 1887 with the exception of copies of the Original Articles of Faith, Rules of Decorum and the Covenant signed by the Charter Members.

To say this is an exciting development is an understatement.  The minutes were believed to have been lost forever but turned up in an old safe in Fulton, MO.  We will have the entire story published here as soon as we can get all the facts.

The most exciting information we should be able to glean from these minutes will be the names of all the Pastors who served Providence from its beginning.  In addition we will be able to catch a glimpse into the monthly church lives of our spiritual ancestors as they met and faithfully recorded their meetings.

Genealogists will also find references to their ancestors who were members of Providence or who "made the church minutes" because of various infractions or special assignments.

Members of Providence are considering this a minor miracle of God.

Of even more significance was the vote of the Callaway Baptist Association to return the original historical church site to Providence.  By action of the Executive Board of the Association the property of the original site of the Providence Baptist Church and additional acreage owned by the Association was given to the Providence Baptist Church.  This property is adjacent to the Providence Hill Cemetery and was the former location of the associational camp.  See the Link on the Homepage of the Camp.
