Joseph Redding

Joseph Redding was the father-in-law of James Suggett.  His name is engraved on Suggett's headstone in a very prominent size.  Joseph Redding was the pastor of the Great Crossings Church in Georgetown, Kentucky when Suggett was converted.   The story of Joseph Redding is told in much detail in the book, Thoughts on Missions and Biographies of Baptist Ministers, by John Taylor, 1816.

The book is a rare book and very valuable if you should happen to find a copy.

Joseph Redding preached in the First Baptist Church of Charleston, South Carolina, the first Baptist Church in the South in the 1780's.  He was a supply preacher in that church until Bro.. Furman took the office of Pastor of that Church.  I called the FBC of Charleston in July of 2001 and a secretary of that church confirmed that indeed the church's records state that Joseph Redding preached in FBC Charleston, SC.

When you walk by James Suggett's grave in Callaway County, Missouri, you are connecting very closely with the heartbeat of Southern Baptist History.
